Almost every store above a certain size runs the same arrangement: a shop, an ERP or warehouse system, and a synchronisation between them that happens on a schedule. Overnight is typical. Hourly is considered good.
In between those runs, the stock figure on your product page is a historical record rather than a fact. Most of the time nobody notices. On the day a product goes viral, or the morning after a sale opens, that gap is where you sell eleven of the four you own — and spend the next week apologising to customers who did nothing wrong.
The fix is not a faster schedule; it is removing the schedule. When the store reads availability from the system that owns it, in real time, the page cannot advertise what the building does not have. The same applies in the other direction: an order should land in the warehouse as it is placed, not in a batch that somebody has to remember to check.
